A SUMMER READING LIST, FOR CERTAIN SUMMER SITUATIONS
The season of AC-centric staycations, sweaty subway rides and—best for last—dreamy beach days is in full swing, and while we’ve definitely got you covered on things to wear, we figured you might also be looking for books to read. Novels, essays, poetry and a collection of illustrations all made it onto our list—check out some recs and go get lost in a new story.

THE MAKING OF A MURAL WITH ARTIST EMILY EISENHART
If you haven’t heard, we’re opening an extra-special new store in Austin, and we can’t waaaait (July 31st people, save the date). To help spread our excitement, we tapped local artist Emily Eisenhart to paint a supersized mural in front of our future new digs. She’s inspired by natural landscapes like the beaches of Washington and Southwestern deserts—so her style is right up our alley. As big fans of Unfortunate Portrait (i.e., Max Dower) and the exclusive sneaks he made for us last year, we just had to team up with the LA-based illustrator
again—this time on collectible tees featuring his punny, childlike doodles. Max was kind enough to answer a few questions for us recently, but instead of using words, he does what he does best: draws.

Woven straw totes and baskets have long been summer staples—they’re lightweight, durable and versatile, easily schlepping everything from beach towels to potato salad. Lately we’ve noticed the familiar basketweave pattern reimagined beyond the tote in crossbodies, sandals and hats all perfect for laid-back afternoons spent in the sand or under a tree. SKATEBOARDING IS MAGIC: HANGING WITH THE SKATE KITCHEN
When we arrived at Rockaway Beach to meet The Skate Kitchen for a video shoot, leader of the pack Rachelle was scrolling through Instagram. “Do you guys know @ugly_delilah?” she asked, before showing us a few favorite shots of the, let’s say, unconventionally beautiful pup. “I love her so much. She follows me now,” she said, proudly. It takes a moment like this to remind you that the founders of this NYC-based all-female skate collective are mostly young, just-out-of-school ladies—because they’ve been skating for almost half their lives and have established a seriously impressive track record. They’re starring in a self-titled movie this summer, they’ve shot campaigns with major brands, plus their Instagram is blowing up—over 60k followers! It’s safe to say that this growing squad (featured are Rachelle, Brenn, Dede, Jules, Nina and Moonbear, aka Kabrina) has a lot to look forward to.
